Hard Targets: “Contre la Carie”
Another snapshot of a long forgotten project: Hard Targets, a convoluted little science-fiction spy-agency virtual-reality mental-breakdown action-adventure. This page is nothing but wide-panels stacked one on top of the other, featuring no dialogue, no sound, no captions. Images speak for themselves.
Ill. 1:
A mouth being held open by some metal spreaders, several back molars missing, another being pried out by a metal clamping instrument.
Ill. 2:
A fist clenched so tight it bleeds, twitching in taut restraints.
Ill. 3:
Single eye shot, the eye held open by metal implements, automatic eye-droplets from a drip stream hovering above, waiting to splash at the next assigned interval. You can see a monitor reflected in the eye, what looks like a young boy brushing his teeth.
Ill. 4:
Image display from the monitor being viewed by the patient — the teeth of the young boy (clearer than the reflection in previous panel), toothbrush rubbing up, big smile, clean gums. Static lines run across, giving it that ‘too zoomed in’ look.
Ill. 5:
Victim’s POV: Richard Nixon masked dentist holds up a pulled molar, Franklin Delano Roosevelt masked dentist leans in to dab an alcohol swab into the patient’s open mouth. Both Masked Men are dressed in perfectly dapper silk suits with matching blue ties, fancy little American flag pins on their lapels. FDR masked dentist is wearing a pair of thick bifocals over the mask.
